Technological strategies and suggestions for improvement.
The lesson plan is a schematized and detailed document
that teachers use to organize and structure a class. Its importance lies in the
fact that it helps to have clarity in the learning objectives, improve times,
structure and organize the way of teaching. Among the digital strategies that
you select for the development of the class, you will find gamified games in
genially and interactive presentations, which are tools that contribute to the
improvement of teaching and diverse learning. In addition, they promote
motivation, participation, active learning and development of cognitive skills.
Considering the application of these digital
resources, it was observed that they were useful to support the development and
objectives of the class, the implementation of these tools motivated interest
in the students since these strategies were based on gamification which allowed
students to participate and be attentive during class. However, there are some
challenges such as that some students do not have cell phones, and some do not
have internet due to this situation, the alternative solutions that could be
implemented were sharing among students and sharing cell phones so that
everyone could carry out the proposed digital activity.
New technologies have changed the way we teach;
therefore, teachers must adapt to the new forms and methodologies that exist to
be implemented. Digitalization offers many interactive and gamified activities
which help capture students' attention and desire to learn. However, we must
keep in mind that there are a variety of platforms to teach, but not all
students have electronic devices and the internet to link to this new way of
teaching.
4. Talking about digital tools and intelligence.
One of the
most popular tools when learning languages is Duolingo, it is a web platform
that offers free learning, and it also has a gamified microlessons format.
Through its teaching strategies, it seeks to reinforce vocabulary and
grammatical structure interactively. Furthermore, a study carried out by the
University of South Carolina, together with the University of New York,
demonstrated that the use of Duolingo for 34 hours is equivalent to a full
university semester of languages.
Duolingo
helps improve productive and receptive skills through repetition exercises,
reading texts, questions, reviewing vocabulary, writing, etc. Its teaching is
carried out through levels; you must complete activities to advance during the
language course that you take on this platform. In addition, its teaching
adapts to the language level that you have regarding the language you learn.
Currently, technological tools
are a set of computer programs that aim to facilitate the performance of a task
on a technological device. These types of methodologies have been integrated
into the world of education where they are used to improve teaching and
learning, facilitating communication, collaboration and access to information.
The teaching-learning processes have been changed by computing and information
technologies (ICT) so much that the way of teaching is executed through virtual
platforms and millions of online educational resources that facilitate
interaction between teachers and students while the way of learning has become
a personalized and more interactive dynamic. Technological tools are sources of
a fundamental pillar for teaching, they are composed of various sources of
information and educational strategies that adapt to different learning rates,
which contribute to a more inclusive and equitable education. With the arrival
of these tools, traditional education has been left behind since students not
only depend exclusively on the knowledge taught by the teacher or information
books, but they can also immerse themselves in a world full of digital
information that allows the student to learn autonomously and at their own
pace. From my experience through pedagogical practice, the implementation of
technological tools has contributed to the improvement of educational processes
and student motivation during the development of dynamic activities designed
for the teaching and learning of students in the educational field that sought
to transform traditional education into a type of digital education through the
interaction of online activities.
Now, the implementation of
technological tools in the classroom is a process that requires teacher
training according to Ertmer and Ottenbreit-Leftwich (2010) that, to understand
and learn to integrate technology in educational processes, it is essential
that teachers plan, implement and evaluate various pedagogical strategies,
which will help develop the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively
integrate technology in class sessions. However, integrating technology into
classroom instruction in a meaningful and cutting-edge way presents an ongoing
challenge. Mainly because, although classrooms may have access to technological
initiatives, there are several circumstances or factors, both internal and
external, that affect the proper implementation of technology in educational
processes. On the other hand, various authors have developed fundamental
theories and strategies aimed at the success of this technological
incorporation, most of them aimed at the teacher as a primary element of the
educational process (Pittman & Gaines, 2015). Now, within the process of
pedagogical practice, the barriers that could be observed to promote digital
education were the insufficiency of Wi-Fi or a limited Internet connection. The
institution did not have a wide network where students could connect. The Internet
was limited whereas the only Wi-Fi network that existed was for administrative
use. classes, the vast majority of students had a cell phone, some with a
computer and others with a Tablet, but there were students who did not have any
of these devices. We must keep in mind that we are talking about a population
where the majority of children come from homes with few resources, which
influences the educational process of the students. Socioeconomic inequality is
another barrier that limits teaching work and is evident in virtual learning
environments. Many students lack the necessary tools to develop in the current
context of education. The internet connection is one of them; “connecting the
23.8 million Colombians who do not have this benefit is one of the biggest
challenges the country has.” (Ministry of Information and Communication
Technologies, 2019). On the other hand, there is insufficient professional
development, when technology is used without correct training, teachers and
students can face loss of time, errors, even frustrations; Therefore, teacher
training plays a fundamental role, many times the teacher does not receive the
necessary training on how to effectively integrate technological tools which
can generate problems of insecurity, resistance to change and limited use of
these strategies, few words in the institution there are different shortcomings
within the teachers because many teachers are not able to integrate technology
as a way of teaching. Chiecher Costa & Lorenzati Blengino (2017) mention:
It is not enough to have access to technologies and be able to operate them
from a technological perspective; It is also necessary to have pedagogical and
didactic knowledge that endorses and supports teaching proposals mediated by
ICT (page 267).
Through some teaching
strategies implemented with the help of technology, it was discovered that
students found it difficult to interact in some activities, they did not know
what to do or how to develop the activities, for this reason, it can be understood
that students require training where they are informed about the use of the
platforms and how to navigate through them, some understood easily, but others
had never interacted in an interactive and digitalized way during their class.
There are weaknesses that can slow down the educational process of students,
which slows down the pedagogical plans and the teacher's teaching level. Even
integrating digital methodologies could lower the educational performance of
students while they adapt to this new learning methodology. Likewise, we must
not leave aside the insufficiency of the Internet and electronic devices which
are essential within this process. Without these elements it is impossible to
execute a digitalized education. It should be noted that among the few
activities carried out through the Internet, the students were motivated and
participatory. Before implementing digital classes, the students carried out a
survey where they were asked how they would like to learn, to which they
responded that they preferred to learn through games and the Internet since
traditional classes were not so attractive to them.
In conclusion, digital tools
offer enormous potential to improve education through different platforms and
applications. Students have access to a lot of information that enriches their
process and strengthens their training process. Likewise, this type of
methodologies allow the student to be able to be autonomous in their process
without having to be limited to the teacher's knowledge, Likewise, this
strategy allows for personalized education that adapts to the way we learn,
however, there are difficulties such as the insufficiency of digital elements
and internet connections that are a great barrier that does not allow digital
education to be carried out, another fundamental part to mention lies in the
importance of teacher training which is a fundamental pillar that if teaching
is not done through electronic devices it can become a big headache, the
student must also be educated in the use of platforms and interactions on the
web, teaching in a digitalized way is a process that requires commitment and
clarity. For this methodology to be effective, technological tools have
completely changed society and education is no stranger to that, therefore,
current education has to leave these traditional paradigms and begin to
implement new teaching methodologies. This trend facilitates the
teaching-learning processes and allows the student to immerse themselves in a
world of knowledge. The teacher must be able to develop these skills and help
the student strengthen their weaknesses and adapt education to the needs of
each student.
